If you really want or care for an explanation for all of my
actions, Mr. Chris, here they are.

while i enjoyed hearing different opinions about wozniak's piece,
i felt like that was the only piece that was being talked about,
and that there were other things that deserved mention. i thought
that was obvious.

also, many people came up to me after the show, saying that
neither of the political pieces should have been done, rather
than taking it up with them, implying that i should take some
action to make sure theyre not offended again. it is fine for
someone to say that they "hate" a piece, but youre getting into
something else when they say that it "shouldnt have been done."
this is where the amendment that shall go unnamed comes into
play. the word oppressed is a bit dramatic. i was simply
reminding people that mr. wozniak, particularly in this
environment, has every right to perform whatever he wants.
problems? take it up with the writer.

as for my piece...i am a fan of david ives. i got the idea for my
piece from "Sure Thing." my hope was to use his concept of rewind-
slash-time manipulation in a much different manner than he, as a
writing exercise for my own betterment. if it seemed too close to
the real thing, then i apparently did not succeed this time
around. but i congratulate you on being well-read. ill give you a
cookie the next time i see you.

Hey, some good things are being said in the boardroom
and I want to get my two cents in. I think it was Josh who
said that we should have some sort of MC between plays. I
think that's a great idea, not only would it help the show
move along, but I also think some people put work and/or
meaning into their titles, and by the time they do their play,
everyone's forgot what the title is. It could even just be
whoever is in the light booth shouting it out. Speaking of,
does anybody think it would be a good idea to have a
permanent someone to run the lights? Just an idea. Also, I
hope everyone is thinking about plays for best of already. I've
seen one or two that might be good. Just keep it in mind-I
noticed that last year's best of was mainly plays that occured
twoard the end of the year. Other than that, we've had a great
year so far. Keep it up.

Hi Everybody. Bummer things can't work out this week due to
everybody being busy. As far as getting the word out about NST, I
actually have a pretty good handle on publicity for certain
events. Not to brag, but since I became the head publicist for
the Cedar Falls Wrestling Alliance, attendance has shot up about
35%! I have connections with people that run the signboards
around campus (uni-dome, union signboards) as well as the UNI
website so I can spread the word on NST if you would like me to.

I also asked the question in a couple of messages ago if we were
able to get powerpoint ability. I was thinking I could use it for
WEEKEND NEWS and some other performers such as musical acts or
whatever could use it as well. Anyway get back to me whenever!

Hey all its me again. Boy its been quiet in here! What do you
all think about Afgahnastan challanging the US? Disscuss....
just kidding. No really, I thought i would ask another
deffinition question again. This time its about material. What
makes a work origional? Can you use something that someone
wrote but has never been performed? Or does it have to be
something that YOU wrote? Just trying to make sure i do things
right. Thanks. Looking forward to tthe next no shame! with all

Josh,

You can perform anything that has the writer's consent... that's
what I think the rule is. As far as your own work, if you have a
joke you need to rip off, just feel free to change it a bit and
hope no one notices. I've done more than my fair share of that.
Good luck,
Howard

I apologize for the random subject title, it just came out.
Thanks to everyone who has said something nice about me in here,
namely "Simply Josh", Howard and Luke. I have nice things to
say to and about you as well. For anyone interested, I'm going
to be recording "Beyond" and other Pete Feltman favorites next
saturday. In addition to that, I have a gig at The Vibe on Oct.
27. That also entails me having my sound equipment in the Cedar
Falls area so if No Shame would be interested in having a PA I
can make the hook up. I know that it would be nice for me to
have as I sing, which I plan on doing in the future. Let me
know what you think. Also, in case anybody was curious,
the "Chris" that is the only other name besides Howard, Jesse,

interest in writing something so we'll see. He's cool.

Hey, I don't know about youse guys, but I am looking forward to
next friday. Its almost like a drug... ya gotta get your fix!
And almost 5 weeks is WAY too long. Anyone got some edgy stuff
this time? I would like to co write stuff with someone. I
guess I keep finding myself writing Monoluges and no dialoges..
Can anyone help here? As for doing some MC between acts to
introduce the next act, I would be interested in doing that or
along those lines, the two guys who introduce the show could
just slip in and give a little intro. Someone said in here
earlier, that people put a lot of thinking into some of their
titles and it would be good to remind the audience...
well, chew on that and regurgitate some sort of response,
Thanks, josh fitkin

as far as the MC between acts goes...there are both positives and
negatives. the good thing about doing that is that people often
get lost in the order, and then theres an awkward pause in the
show, as whoever has the list order has to fumble around to look
for what comes next. so that would make it smoother. the bad thing
about it would be that it would make definite breaks in the show,
maybe slowing thing down. plus, i wonder if it would seem corny
having someone jump up to say a name and a title. i think theres
something to be said about a consistent momentum of a show. but
shit, maybe its worth a try. maybe nobody would be bothered by it.

if you want to get together to collaborate, josh, im more than
willing. drop me an email and let me know if you want to get
together next week sometime.

Hey kids!
It was sure great to have No Shame Theater again. I really
missed it these past couple of weeks. It gave me some time to
work on my stuff, but appearently... that wasn't such a good
thing. I mean, how do you close when someone forces you to use
your closer as an opener. I honestly didn't think anyone would
say anything about my fly being down so soon. But such is
life. I also don't think that Kameric wasn't such a friendly
room. It seriously feels like you are looking at a wall of
faces, and Gah! did it get hot in there! Great to see some new
performers and a little song thing too. That was fun. And as
with every no shame, there is bound to be someone that offends
or says something questionable. I feel that I can say this
honestly, because I actually read EVERY single message posted
since the birth of CF NST. It seems to me that there
has/is/will be an issue about the content of some people's
stuff. So if someone DOES want to talk about their ex's member,
let em do it! Just as long as it follows the three rules:
1.Origional (I swear I read that story in Hustler) 2.Under 5
minutes (Do we need to hear any MORE then 5 mins of that stuff)
and 3.Don't break stuff (ummm... Yeah!)
Thats all I have to say for now, Look forward to seeing some
action in this room again.
Simply,
Josh

Hi guys! It was great to have NST again but things have changed
rapidly as I noticed when I gave Weekend News. I have always
tried to throw some clean jokes here and there and I found out
last night that the crowd did not appreciate clean jokes. In
fact they booed at my clean jokes. The crowd was definitely
different than ever before as in this time they heckled most of
my performance which has never really happened and in return I
pretty much bombed. Unfortunatley I have been in somewhat of a
lousy mood because I am always trying to give 100% and I feel as
if I fell really short this time. Luke suggests that I do
something different than Weekend News and he is absolutely
right. I have been thinking about that for a while and now is
the time. All I know is, you are going to see a different Josh
Goodrich for now on at NST. Until then, Later!

I thought I'd put off studying and post a review for once, so
here goes.
:1. The True Meaning of Love, by Josh Fitkin
This was genius. I couldn't stop laughing through the whole
thing. Great way to start off the show.

2. #13, by Katie Frederick-Schector (performed by Katie F-S)
As usual, this was great. I wish I had half the talent Katie
does for writing poetry.

3. A Non-Drinking Public Service Announcement, by Howard
howie wrote this one. I thought it was pretty damn funny,
especially the line about how nothing will bring Billy back
because he's "pretty damn dead"

4. Phat Crib Quartet, by Kate Melloy and Elysia Hansel
This was good, but I think they could've made it better. Not
quite as funny as I thought it might have been

5. Deeper Thoughts, by Jon Cochrane (performed by Jon C)
Too many people saw this coming, so I think that kind of
ruined it a bit

6. 2 Poems, by Elysia Hansel (performed by Elysia H)
I don't remember too much about these, except for the fact
that someone other than me was voicing a political opinion,
which made me feel nice

7. Size Does Matter, by Erica Engel (performed by Erica E)
This truly put the shame back in No Shame. This is the only
performance I've seen that made me not want to go to NST, if
that was going to be done again. However, that's what we're
all about, so at least we've succeded in getting the point
across that we allow ANYTHING

8. Weekend News, by Josh Goodrich
Josh posted something about how no one laughed at his
clean jokes. I think it was more the unlucky coincidence of
following what he did. The audience was just a little too shell
shocked to laugh yet, I think

9. Simply Josh, by Josh Fitkin (performed by Josh F)
Josh's stand up countinues to be strong. I don't think this
was a good as the rest of his, but maybe he had he same
bad luck that other Josh had

10. No Wait, Scratch That, by Jesse Wozniak and Howard
Zimmerle
I helped write this, so I can't really comment

11. Hans Zweidernander and Gretel, by Neil Van Gorder
(performed
I feel really bad that no one could understand people through
their German accents, because this about made me pee my
pants laughing

12. Stay and Listen, by Luke Pingel (performed by Luke P)
This was awesome. Again, I'd like to say I wish I had half the
talent of someone like this

::1. The True Meaning of Love, by Josh Fitkin
Damn funny... but then again I talked to a girl who almost walked
out crying because she was the victim of a stalker. Oh well, can't
please everyone, and this pleased me.
:2. #13, by Katie Frederick-Schector (performed by Katie F-S)
She used her unique style and excellent wordplay for great effect.
I also like how she always writes about stuff that is important to
her... that's hard to do sometimes. Good job.
:3. A Non-Drinking Public Service Announcement, by Howard
Best line I've ever written: "Because all the vodka and
drunken-monkey sex in the world isn't gonna get little Billy back.
He's pretty damned dead.
:4. Phat Crib Quartet, by Kate Melloy and Elysia Hansel
Audience participation is good.
:5. Deeper Thoughts, by Jon Cochrane (performed by Jon C)
Retire this... please.
:6. 2 Poems, by Elysia Hansel (performed by Elysia H)
Much like Woz, I can't remember these for the life of me.
:7. Size Does Matter, by Erica Engel (performed by Erica E)
AAAAAAAAUGH!!! The play that wouldn't end!!! I know I'm mr. first
amendment and all, but shit... this made me uncomfortable. That is
actually a first for No Shame. I wanted to stop this... I think
she would have done much better with more jokes, less detail, and
without pointing out the poor bugger in the audience. AAAUGH. i
can't stop thinking about this awful thing. Props for balls
though, but personally I just think that she was somehow getting
back at this guy.
:8. Weekend News, by Josh Goodrich
Sorry you came after this girl... people were still in a bad mood.
Good job, but retire the I don't know game.
:9. Simply Josh, by Josh Fitkin (performed by Josh F)
This wasn't the best Simply Josh piece... stand up can be hard to
do on a regular basis...
:10. No Wait, Scratch That, by Jesse Wozniak and Howard
:Zimmerle
I dunno... only some parts of this made me chuckle. Probably not
my best work.
:11. Hans Zweidernander and Gretel, by Neil Van Gorder
This cracked me up... once again it was one of those "what the
fuck is he on" NVG pieces, and it was a good thing. It was nice to
have Neil back in full form.
:12. Stay and Listen, by Luke Pingel (performed by Luke P)
It's cool if you've seen all of No Shame, because you've seen Luke
gradually turn into a helluva playwrite. This was a great job.

Look everybody, I didn't do my piece in order to offend anyone.
I did it to push the limits. I was staying true to what No Shame
is supposed to be about, in my opinion. If I offended you, I
apologize, that was not my intent. However, there have been
several times when I have been offended at some one's work,
despite this I did not tell them that what they did or said was
wrong, as has happened to me since last No Shame. If you were
offended, fine, feel free to tell me so, but don't tell me that
it was wrong. No Shame Theatre is supposed to be about providing
a safe space for artist to present material that they wouldn't
normally be able to, I don't think we have that here.

I don't mean to be rude, Erica, but I don't believe you were
expressing those ideas in an artist manner. You were just trying
to be funny. I think you are well aware that it is not art.
Since it is No Shame, you do have the right to do this, but next
time, do it for the artistic merit and not for the shock-value.
No Shame should be a place for art and humor, and I usually see
that and am very impressed. With this, I was disgusted. Also, I
don't know if Jim was aware that you were planning this, but
realize that it is slanderous. Slander is illegal. He was
obviously humiliated. Please, for the sake of keeping attendance
and enjoyment levels up, don't share these type of things with
the UNI students next time. Thanks.

How is an attempt to be funny not artistic? I think she created
something with the attempt at entertaining others, and in doing so
created a piece of art. While it may not have sat well with many
people, it was still art, and as such may be judged as one. No
Shame is not nor should ever become a popularity contest...
therefore anyone should be able to present any sort of art she
desires as long as it fits our rules. Did I like the piece? Nope.
Did I think it was distasteful? Yep. Do I agree with the previous
poster that it was slanderous towards her ex? Oh yeah. But do I
think it was meant to entertain the audience? Yes, and for that
she must be applauded for her efforts. For future reference
however, please do not slander other people in any piece. Remember
what Luke said in the beginning: one of the rules is not to hurt
anything on stage or any people.

:1. The True Meaning of Love, by Josh Fitkin (performed by Josh F)

Josh did some very nice work with this piece. it built very
nicely throughout, besides the fact that his delivery is always
stellar

2. #13, by Katie Frederick-Schector (performed by Katie F-S)

Once again, delivery of this piece was incredible, and it also
had different levels. it was funny, sad, shocking, and
introspective. fine performance piece

3. A Non-Drinking Public Service Announcement, by Howard
:
Zimmerle

This was fucking hilarious. quite honestly, and others have
agreed, this was some of the best work ive seen from howard yet.
:
4. Phat Crib Quartet, by Kate Melloy and Elysia Hansel

this might not have worked if the PCQ hadnt put so much energy
behind such a song. i think the best part was the combo of bongos
and out of tune guitar. "screw tuning it!" it worked better. at
this point in the eve i felt that we were on our way to the best
no shame ever.

5. Deeper Thoughts, by Jon Cochrane (performed by Jon C)

whew, we lost some steam on this one. this didnt work for 2
reasons: 1.) we all knew what was coming. 2.) what was coming was
just john standing there. hmmmmm. not really original anymore.

6. 2 Poems, by Elysia Hansel (performed by Elysia H)

i am personally a big fan of elysia's poetry. however, did anyone
check out writing against your text? it made me wonder if there
cant be more done with staging these poems to enhance them even
more. know what i mean? fabulous writing though.

7. Size Does Matter, by Erica Engel (performed by Erica E)

Ok, Erica. First of all, I do congratulate you for having the
balls to go up there, especially for a piece like this. As far as
this being a risk-free environment, i honestly (naively) once
thought it was. however, no performance is risk-free. the
audience, when they walk in that door, are taking a risk that
they will not like a piece or be offended. they know that and
they still decide to show up. The performer is taking a bigger
risk that they wont be liked. you had every right to perform the
work you did...however, the audience had every right to feel
uncomfortable, especially since jim was there. we all felt bad
for the guy. i dont know if slander was your intention, just know
that it just doesnt fly with any crowd.

8. Weekend News, by Josh Goodrich (performed by Josh G,

Josh was unhappy with this, partly because he was taken out of
his game by the previous piece. so was the crowd, though. it
sucked to have to perform during the recovery period. ive told
this to you, josh, you dont need to can weekend news, but it
would be cool to see some other things from you.

9. Simply Josh, by Josh Fitkin (performed by Josh F)

now that the audience was STILL riled up, they had no problem
with destroying the final joke about his fly being open. who
knows what it could have been.

10. No Wait, Scratch That, by Jesse Wozniak and Howard Zimmerle

started out very funny, but the holocaust references took
everyone out of it. offensive humor CAN and IS funny. maybe
handling it more gracefully would make these jokes work for
people better. what does that mean? i dont fucking know.

11. Hans Zweidernander and Gretel, by Neil Van Gorder (performed
:
by NVG, Elysia H, Aaron K, Kate M, Luke P, and Jesse W)

well done, neil. you made a much better hans than my sad attempt
when i did the last piece in the series. i think a more well-
planned musical number would make it totally awesome. maybe for
best-of? so far, this one seems to be a good pick.

12. Stay and Listen, by Luke Pingel (performed by Luke P)

i appreciate the nice comments about this one. i felt pretty good
about the piece itself...think i could have personally sold it a
little better. i was actually nervous about this piece, mainly
because it was more personal than things i like to perform.

You make an excellent point and I withdraw my statement that it
wasn't aren't. I guess it was out of my league to assume things
that I had no business assuming. I do think though, that there
should be considerations taken when you are speaking about
someone in the audience. No Shame, as Howard said, is not a
place to hurt other people. See you all in a couple weeks!

First of all, Erica did let me know that she was going to do
this, so stop assuming she didn't.

Second of all, I was a little embarrased, not humiliated.

Third, if you think this was lewd, head down to Iowa's no
shame, you'll probably walk out.

Fourth, slander is the act of making untrue accusations in
public. What Erica said wasn't untrue, and she had my
permission. I'm not saying that you're a moron, but you are
completely ignorant, wise up.

Lastly, at least Erica didn't show up at No shame using an
alias and wearing a mask. She put her butt on the line in
front of a lot of people, which takes a lot more guts than
posting something on a message board as a faceless
coward with a computer.

and goodbye.

My name is Jim Mochal, I was the subject of Erica's "size
does matter" oration.
Erica cleared her performance with me first. I read it and
thought it was funny, therefore, what Erica did was NOT
SLANDEROUS! Hopefully that will silence those of you
accusing her of slander. In fact, if you continue to accuse
Erica of slander on this public domain.... slander which she
did not committ..... then you are in fact guilty of slander.
think about it.

Second of all, what do you people expect when you walk into
something called "NO SHAME" theatre. I mean, come on,
when you go into a bar are you surprised and horrified to
see beer being served? If you patronize a strip club, and
God help the damned soul who does that, will you freak out
at the brandishing of naked breasts? Probably not.
Hopefully the point to this is clear,

Lastly, what Erica did took a tremendous amount of
intestinal fortitude,...that means guts for those of you who've
accused her of slander. What she did, she did socially
naked, totally exposed to her friends and peers. Everone
knew her name and saw her face, there's no place to hide
on stage. However, what people like the "observer" do -
make foolish accusations from an untraceable source while
using an alias - looks quite cowardly in comparison.

Everone has the right to be offended and voice that opinion,
Just don't accuse someone of a crime for Christ's sake!
Remember, as much as you have the right to speak, so did
Erica!

I thought the whole show on Friday was great, keep up the
good work, and thanks for giving me your ear for a minute.

Have you all gone insane?! The only person who says I didn't
commit the crime of slander is the person who I, according to
popular belief, slandered! Before you accuse some one of a
serious crime maybe you should get all the facts and not make an
entirely untrue statement based on your opinion! When you accuse
some one of slander, according to the law, you are require to
have some sort of proof, the fact that all the proof is agianst
you should make you think about retracting your statements. The
fact is I didn't hurt or slander anyone at No Shame, and, if you
actually knew me you would no that I would never do such a thing!

Erica, Jim, and others that this may concern, I would like to
apologize again. First, I never meant to start a big arguement.
I was just stating what I felt and I will never deny that. Also,
since Jim did know what you (Erica) were going to do, you're
right, it's not slander. I assumed that he wasn't aware of it
because of the moment when he yelled "Shut Up." Since he did
know, I withdraw my statement. Also, as I said earlier, I
shouldn't have assumed that you weren't being artistic. I didn't
feel that it was art, but, I can't tell you what you perceive as
art, so I am sorry. Finally, I am staying annonymous because it
is not the person that wrote this that matters, it is what I
said. These were not all my thoughts, they came from others as
well. I don't see the need to start a big fight over this, and
that is the main reason that I kept my identity unknown. If my
earlier comments offended you, I apologize, but realize that I
was offended last Friday night. ANYWAY, let's leave this little
online bickering session (which I will say I instigated) in the
past and continue to allow ALL artists to present their works at
No Shame.

Hi everybody this is Josh Goodrich. Just to let you all know
that for the time being I am retiring "Weekend News". I did not
think I would being doing this sketch for three shows straight
but I kept getting compliments and the audience really seemed to
enjoy it, which is a good thing! I just felt, like some of you
others, I have a little more to offer and I should experiment
with some other ideas. I already have some new and exciting
ideas for the next no shame which includes a dramatic piece
which not a whole lot of people have ever seen me do. In
addition, if you guys ever want me to help out in a scene, no
matter how big or small the role is, I would be glad to help and
Luke lets get started whenever you are ready!

One day we might see Weekend News, but for the time being, other
doors are being opened! Have a good week everyone!

Sincerely,
Josh Goodrich

p.s. I think it would be clever if someone did a sketch about a
big wang and how it has turned their relationship upside
down...Just joking Erica/Jim! Later!

Mark Marvel...
I hope that you're not stopping the weekend news just because of
the dynasty, those guys are pussies, and I'll kick every one of
their asses if they ever interupt them again. The Attitude and
Sidekick Steve are still recovering from the back breakers I
issued them on Friday, you won't have to worry about them for a
long time.
Any other of you ass wads in the dynasty clique who want a piece
of us can have it.
For those of you who are wondering what in the hell this message
is all about, come to Halloween Hell this Friday and Saturday at
8:00, if you do, I guarantee you'll be CFWAites for life!!!!!!

"Being at No Shame is kind of like watching an armored car and
a truck full of lollipops crash into each other. You're
horrified, but you're also hopeful that something wonderful is
going to drop into your lap."
 --from Idat's website
Hey all, I found this quote on the Iowa City's NST website.
Folks, we got it good! They complain about a guy in a pig mask
running across the stage nude; not once, not twice, but three
times. there are also some comments about "why does so-and-so
always have to use poop in his sketches, especially the one
where the girl put it in her eye!" But then, looking at the
Charleston site, they hardly have anything going on. I gotta
say, I am proud to be part of no shame theater. Where else can
you get the diverisity of entertainment? I mean we got music,
poems, reflective comedy and "pain" about the past, and pathetic
stand-up? Only at no shame. So my two bits, as everyone has
given theirs, is this: lets just follow the three only rules of
no shame. 1. Under 5 min. 2. Dont break thinks 3. original
stuff.
hey, if someone wants to get up there and make an ass out of
themselves, let em do it. Cuz I know within 10 min, I might see
something that will blow me away! Erica, props (whatever that
means anyway) to you. I applaude you for taking the "risk" to
speak your mind. And the guy with the member, well spoken! No
shame is all about letting it all hang out. So to those who
were offended by Erica's words, just think, she could of had a
fat, pale, hairy guy in a pig mask running across the front of
the room with his doo-dad flapping in the wind. Always remember,
it could be worse!
Thanks for hearing me and i look forward to hearing from you,
Josh

You said it well. I was, in fact, less than smiling after some
skits...not even last time solely, but on other occassions too.
I've had to remind myself that No Shame means exactly what it's
called. You said it very well though!! I am excited for the next
show. See you all then!

This Friday and Satuday night I'll be putting my streak to the
test. You see, I've never been pinned in the CFWA, I'm on a
streak of nearly one year without being pinned, so all of you
CFWAites out there in NST land should show up and cheer
on Brick, Mark Marvel, The Real Deal Dean Collins, Captain
Parrot......and boo the likes of Tortuous tony sly, The attitude
Chris Ryan, and Thanos.
I know that those of you in NST land appreciate a story, and
you know that it's not easy to tell a story.....believe me, it's
even harder when you've got the wind knocked out of you
and you're about to get a steel chair shot to the head.

It's nice to see everyone getting involved on the message
board. Too bad I couldn't have been there last friday, it
sounds like we had a winner in the cock speech. I think it
really sets a new standard for what needs to be done at No
Shame. So, next time, I'm going to perform one of my songs in
the nude.
In related news. If you liked the song that I sang 2 No Shames
ago, then come to the Vibe this Saturday night at 8:30 as I will
be putting on a show. I'm really looking foward to it, and it's
people like the No Shame crowd that have the patience and
courage to run with us little-no-name-musicians. I'm extremely
proud of the work that I've created and I really have to thank
the No Shame crowd for the positive feedback that I received.
It's very encouraging. Thank you.
Any questions, send me an email.

Until that day
pete
