Congrats on your no shame and such an active message board.

When no shame started at Iowa the whole point was to create a
place where people could experiment with theatre without having
any impact on grades--kind of narrow because it wasn't only
students who did the work, but Stan, Jeff and I all were.

The really wonderful thing is that the notion took root and like
kudzu has grown all over the world...well, parts of it anyway.

That the UofI no shame still persists into its second decade is
evidence of the power of this forum which is defined by its lack
of definition. Down here in Charlottesville we say, "Its your
theatre, make it what you want."

Or, as Evil Scott Smith once said on TV--"it might be boring but
it ain't dull."

Now that I'm all growed up and have started No Shame in Virginia,
and am working on getting new no shame cells started up in other
locations, I put it to you, active ones, what about a national No
Shame convention one of these days? Hold it in Iowa City--get
the brass at the university to kick in some dough, and bring
veteran no shamers together for a week of performances,
workshops, etc.

Would there be any interest in that? If so I am willing to pitch
it to the UI theatre department and maybe we can actually get
some arts funding for it.

If Iowa ain't proud of No Shame, it dang well otter be!

Just an idee.

I think that would be great to have a No Shame Convention or
something like that. I personally would like to visit the Iowa
City noshame, as it sounds like it something that any true
noshamer must experience. As for this Friday, i am looking
forward to seeing some new stuff from those "inspired" by the
last NST. By the way, whoever put up the signs in Rediker....
simply BRYLIANT! It caught my eye and I had to read on more.
Let it be,
Josh

I think the idea of a national No Shame forum would be totally
kick-ass. I also think I'm going to try and get No Shame theater
started wherever I got to law school next year...

Thanks Todd for helping get this started in the beginning

no, it wasn't slander. and yes, it absolutely belonged--no shame
means no shame means no shame.

can i add, though, that your piece made me sad? because you used
your ex's name, because you exposed exactly only the truth,
because you imagined none of the creepy (my own word, dig?)
things you told us about jim's penis, you got to stand up in
front of a room of people and be heard.

lucky you.

The message board certainly has been active. The national
No Shame idea has me more excited than a dog in a fire
hydrant warehouse. I'm first in line to sign up. Secondly, I, like
Josh, sadly have never been to an Iowa City No Shame.
Maybe we could organize a little caravan down on one of our
"off" fridays. I think it'd be fun...good company, good show,
great time.

P.S. I put those signs up in Redeker...thanks for noticing big

Ok, I think the next step in the process is to start cross
pollenating with other No Shame message boards. Go to other no
shame sites, ask questions, make comments, start discussing a
national convention in the abstract, what it might do for each of
the no shames, why it would be neat, and what you think you and
each of your no shames would get out of it.

I think a "starting up a no shame" workshop is a definite thing
to have during this weeklong shamelessness, as well as it
culminating with the regular Friday No Shame in Iowa City--with
Best Of No Shame showcases from each of the other participating
No Shames on M-th. Of course, all this is contingent on UofI
deciding this is something they would support, but how
embarrassing would it be if the NNSC was held in the rented
Riverside Theatre space?

Let's shamelessly start stirring up the interest, so we can
demonstrate that its there when we make the pitch--and also,
since No Shame has been going for 15+ years, we have lots of
famous alums (some who have had West End shows, been in tv and
movies, and won emmy's for example--even no shame characters like
Artie Strongest Man in the World have wound up as recurring
characters on tv) we really ought to use this fantastic
brotherhood of no shamers as a means of networking. To do so
effectively means we gotta meet each other once in a while, right?

Again, just an idea.

Hey everyone, Jeff Johnson here. I just got back from NST,
where I performed two pieces: The Moon and I, or I Know the End
Doesn't Rhyme, Dammit!; and Odds are, or Logic Suggests, or What
This HomoSapien Finds Funny. Seriously, don't laugh. I would
really enjoy feedback from you all, and if you treat me real
nice, I might just make this NST performing stuff a habit. As
for me, I liked the How-to-No Shame instructional piece,
(although I haven't decided which one yet) Q's song about the
dude with no feet, Pete's kicking ass-ness, and anything with
Goodrich. Although I gotta tell ya, seeing him with his shirt
off does get old. I'm not sure if I'm glad about me not being
the only one to mention the penis thing, or if I'm
disappointed. Just so y'all know, I did share the jist of my
piece with Erica before performing it, and she thought it was
funny, so there. Yeah. On a closing note, Laaaaa. I mean, I
really thought the audience needs a round of applause, because
they seemed to respond to what I did, and I didn't think they
would at all, so thanks to all that enjoyed me. And to the
others, you know who you are, and you'll get yours. But I want
feedback. I think I mentioned that. Bye.

OK... so we moved to the CAC. Supposedly this seats 102 people,
not counting the aisles. We had people in the aisles already,
which is good... but: What happens if No Shame contuinues to grow
in popularity? What happens for Best Of? Do we need a bigger
room? Do we need to charge admission like Iowa City (I say not
yet)? Just some random thoughts. I liked the performance area
much better, as well as the proximity to the audience. Oh well...
I guess there is no perfect location.

my Scrambled Eggs--by Luke Pingel and Josh Goodrich
:
(Luke P., Josh G., and Jon Cochrane)

I don't like reviewing stuff I helped write. It makes me feel
weird, like a girl without ovaries

2. The Moon and I, or I Know the End Doesn't Rhyme Dammit--by
:
Jeff Johnson (Jeff J.)

The end DID rhyme!! Consider all of us tricked!! I wouldnt mind
being enlightned on the choice of title, liar liar, pants on fire.

3. True Love, Lobsters, and a Bear--by Howard Zimmerle
:
(Howard Z., Jesse W., Jeff Dorothy, and ?)
Nice work, very funny. Even though Goodrich and I made fun of
Howard and woz a bit in the first piece, I must say that there is
a definite evolution in Howard's writing.

4. Untitled--by Pete Feltman (Pete F)

This might be my favorite Pete Feltman song. You guys missed a
rocking show at the Vibe last weekend too.

5. How to Write a No Shame Play--by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W. and
:
Howard Z.)

You know, so there were two pieces in the same night about almost
exactly the same thing. They really werent as similar as i had
feared they would be. The only criticism I had with this piece is
that the Jay and Silent Bob parody part might have stretched a
bit too long. It started to feel like that was the axis of the
piece, even though it really wasnt.

6. The Little Titanic--by Jeff Lehnhart (Jeff L)

You know, if we had a rookie of the semester award, I dont know
who the fuck I would give it to! This was so funny I thought I
would pee! I did pee, but after the show. "Thanks for nothing,
life savers." priceless. please keep coming back, Jeff.

7. The Church Joke--by Matt Brehms (Matt B., Howard Z., and Matt
:
Wagner)

Moderately funny, I'm trying to figure out what my problem with
this one is. I guess I feel like anyone can come up and tell one
joke. Was this original? It didnt feel like it.

8. Stump Leg Man--by Q (Q, Pete Feltman)

Funny stuff. Such a dumb song, but that was the point. Q's puke
bucket made it especially funny. I think its a good idea to get
the audience involved whenever possible.

9. Domino's Pizza Challenge--by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)

Ok, so you didnt finish the pizza in 2 minutes. People go to no
shame to see daring acts done with gusto. And this is something
people are going to be talking about for a long time. Here is
exactly what was cool: It wasnt just watching Josh eating pizza
as fast as he could. He actually built the suspense...praying...
ripping off his shirt...it was performance art at its most
shameless. it had a beginning, middle and end. fabelhof, so the
germans say (i think)

10. Odds Are, or Logic Suggests, or What This Homo Sapien Finds
:
Funny--by Jeff Johnson (Jeff J, Luke P)

First of all I felt like a jackass for stuttering on my one line.
(t-t-time!) This was very funny...perhaps it could have been even
funnier. I think I just had in mind a different twist or
something, like random statistics that had nothing to with his
friends, OR perhaps if he had made the delivery less animated and
more boring professor-like, it could have made it even
funnier. "Dont laugh, that wasnt funny" I dont know, maybe that
would have wrecked it. Just bashing ideas around. It still made
me laugh at the absurdity of the idea. keep coming back.

11. God Bless America--by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)

This worked very very well. I think sometimes the audience looks
at wozniak's pieces like "why did he write that?" as in they dont
get his intent with his past political pieces. however, this was
totally cool because the crowd got to see what makes jesse tick
when he does do (sometimes brutal) satires on politics. I dug
this a lot.

12. The One I Love--by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)

heartwarming piece, but it was so hard not to laugh after the
pizza challenge. i was chewing my face not to bust out during the
serious moments.

13. Daddy Lives On--by Luke Pingel (Luke P)

i will leave it up to you to review this one...it would make me
feel like a grandmother trying to wipe her own ass, when there is
an orderly getting paid good money to do it.

great show this week everyone!!!

Luke

to clarify, the last stanza of The Moon and I, or I know the End
Doesn't Rhyme Dammit, is as follows...

The moon and I are brothers
The moon and I are pals
The man in the moon is smiling
Wish I could figure how

Now either my Iowanian accent made the 2nd and 4th lines rhyme,
or there just close enough that people think that it rhymed. I
admit, their close, but they don't fit my definition of rhyme,
dammit. Dammits are funny.

It must have been the iowanian accent. When you were done I
leaned over to luke and said the a the end did rhyme. My poet
ears must be corrupted by verse that rhymes in abstract ways so I
just thought that it rhymed when really it did not yet it still
had a rhythem in which it all panned out in the end and then it
ended up rhyming but not in the true sense of the word rhyme but
more in the sylvia plath tibeten monk sense of the word I know
were all dieing but instead of just rhyming it ended up
blanking. I just won the contest for worlds longest pointless
runon. woohoo. It was a nice poem, yet you lacked the
enthusiasm that I think good poets need when projecting their
poem.

this first part mainly pertains to the board members. before the

there were some complaints from the dorms about putting up no

personally, i dont know what the big damn deal is, or even why
they have to stamp them. does anybody know the reasoning behind
this strange rule?

also to jeff: i totally feel like a boner for hearing that line

::1. Scrambled Eggs For a Gorilla, or Gross! There's a Gorilla in
::
:my Scrambled Eggs--by Luke Pingel and Josh Goodrich
Good title first off... I liked the satires of former no shame
plays, but I think you had to have been a regular last year for
some of the jokes to have made sense. I will say once again that I
don't think I ever swore just for shock value or used a racial
slur in a way other than to make fun of people who use them.
:2. The Moon and I, or I Know the End Doesn't Rhyme Dammit--by
::
:Jeff Johnson (Jeff J.)
This was a pretty good poem, but I agree with Luke that it could
have been cool if Jeff had been a little more animated.
:
:3. True Love, Lobsters, and a Bear--by Howard Zimmerle
This is a condensed version of a much longer piece I had written
in my head. Oh, by the way, the girl was Becca Wagoner (trivia
question: she was the sister of Matt Wagoner who showed up in the
church skit) and I think she did a great job in her No Shame
debut, as did Jeff Dorothy. Spitting Tic-Tacs is fun :-)
:4. Untitled--by Pete Feltman (Pete F)
Somewhere along the line, Pete became a helluva singer and
songwriter. Don't know when that happened exactly, but I think he
is pretty damned good now, and if he gets much better we'll
probably be touring with Dave Mathews or something.
:5. How to Write a No Shame Play--by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W. and
It's kind of wierd to go from Woz and I writing all of our plays
collectively to us writing them seperately. I think this shows the
differences in our senses of humor, and by the end of the semester
you could probably go back through our old works and guess who
wrote what jokes. Anyway, I thought this was pretty funny, but the
Jay and Silent Bob thing did drag on for too long. Plus it gave me
yet another chance to run through the audience sans coullattes.
:6. The Little Titanic--by Jeff Lehnhart (Jeff L)
This was so good I began to doubt its originality. The button
thing and the lifesavers thing were awesome. Props on memorization
too.
:7. The Church Joke--by Matt Brehms (Matt B., Howard Z., and Matt
Truth be told, I didn't really like this. It wasn't original, and
it was too obvious. On the bright side, it was short and made the
audience laugh. Can't be all bad. Did anyone else notice that this
No Shame marked the debuts of exactly 7 actors here or there?
Cool.
:8. Stump Leg Man--by Q (Q, Pete Feltman)
I didn't think this was that funny, but it did provide some good
audience participation, which keeps people from getting
complacent, and I like that.
:9. Domino's Pizza Challenge--by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
Anymore, I live performance pieces, and this one has to be among
the best. Gotta love this man, and you also gotta love the way his
little offhand comments are so funny. Love it... that's an order!
LOVE IT DAMMIT!! Jeff J was right... dammits are funny.
:10. Odds Are, or Logic Suggests, or What This Homo Sapien Finds
::
:Funny--by Jeff Johnson (Jeff J, Luke P)
That was funny. What was even funnier was the guy sitting next to
me who was puzzled and asking "When's it supposed to be funny??" I
didn't think that the running joke was too cerebral for anyone,
but hey, I guess I'm wrong.
:11. God Bless America--by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)
Damn this pissed people off. People are talking about this, which
makes it a success. I liked the wordplay and the delivery, much
like Katie FS... I also think he made a number of good points.
However, many of his points were ignorant and forgot about the
underlying reasons for some things...
:12. The One I Love--by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
I liked this... it was serious but still funny in parts. Nice
work.
:13. Daddy Lives On--by Luke Pingel (Luke P)
So let me get this straight... the skit was about a nine year old
boy who thought that a dildo was actually his cremated father.
Fucked up, but in a cool way. It was nice to see some comedy
pieces from Luke for a change... it seems like he's been doing a
lot of serious plays lately.

Good show, and way to pop the CAC's cherry!
Howard

People said they wanted feedback, and they're getting it in
spades. I just thought I'd toss my two cents in the bucket

1. Scrambled Eggs For a Gorilla, or Gross! There's a Gorilla
in my Scrambled Eggs--by Luke Pingel and Josh Goodrich
I felt kind of dumb doing my play after this one, since it was
pretty much the same thing...great minds think alike I
suppose, though I did feel personally attacked by the little
barb about Howard and I, since, as he pointed out, we never
use swearing for shock value and we're trying to satirize
those who do have prejudiced views

2. The Moon and I, or I Know the End Doesn't Rhyme
Dammit
This was good

3. True Love, Lobsters, and a Bear--by Howard Zimmerle
I like Howard's more serious, introspective writings, so I
thought this one was pretty good. It was
semi-autobiographical, though, so I think I got it on a level
most of the audience probably didn't

4. Untitled--by Pete Feltman (Pete F)
Pete keeps on rocking. Were does this stuff come from, and
were can I get some

5. How to Write a No Shame Play--by Jesse Wozniak
This would've been better a different week. I agree the Jay
and Silent bob thing went on too long, but that's just one of
those things you don't realize 'till you're up there doing and
it's a little too late to fix

6. The Little Titanic--by Jeff Lehnhart (Jeff L)
This was great! I hope he keeps writing and keeps coming
back. Wow, this was good!

7. The Church Joke--by Matt Brehms
Cute little gag, I suppose. It's nice to see more involved

8. Stump Leg Man--by Q
Interesting song, not too funny, but interesting

9. Domino's Pizza Challenge--by Josh Goodrich
I think I said it there, but I don't use the term "American Hero"
very often, but this man truly is

10. Odds Are, or Logic Suggests, or What This Homo
Sapien Finds Funny
I liked the idea, but I agree that the delivery could be
changed to be more funny

11. God Bless America--by Jesse Wozniak
I think this is the first time I've really put myself out on a
ledge for No Shame, and I'm really glad I've gotten some
good feedback. I've got some more poetry/raps that I think I
might do at future No Shames

12. The One I Love--by Josh Goodrich
I'm with Luke that this was hard no to laugh through after the
pizza thing. Plus, I had just the title and last line on the little
order sheet, and I thought it was going to be a serious play
about a girl he loves, and then at the end be funny because
it turns out he's romantically interested in his sister, so I
was laughing in anticipation of an entirely different play.
Sorry.

13. Daddy Lives On--by Luke Pingel
This was great. The only thing I wanted was to see Luke
kiss is, but we can't all have what we want. Genius idea,
though

Hi everyone! I would just like to say that even though I have
only been to about 7 or 8 shows, I felt that last Friday's was
the best yet for me.

First off, I would like to apologize to Howard and Jesse for the
sake of keeping their name clean. Yes, you guys purely use your
humor to make fun of those who do dumb things such as
racism, etc. Luke and I never ever meant to portray your humor in
anyway relating to such acts. Once again, on our behalf, I
apologize.

Second off, all debuts were great! Titantic guy, Jeff Johnson,
The Wagoners, and more made their present felt. No doubt about
it, NST will be big next time and for now on which leads me to

CAC WILL BE TOO SMALL NOT TOO LONG FROM NOW.

about the CAC,

there were both pros and cons to our new space. the bad thing was
that there are just not enough seats for everyone to sit.
counting the loose ones in the back row, there are 104 seats in
the room. our attendance has been very consistent this year,
between 120 and 130 every week so far. jesus, i remember weeks
where there were 30-40 people there! so few seats=bad.

however, unlike our old areas, this room was far superior in
terms of the proximity to the audience, room to move around
onstage, and the use of lights (as elementary as they were).

personally, i think this is our best bet for a space. what do we
do as it grows and more and more people show up? keep crammin em
in. we could have ushers try and get people to sit up in front of
the front row. weve got plenty of floor space to use still. plus
where else are we going to go?

I think Luke is right that the CAC is a nice space. It is good
about proximity to the audience, and yes, there is plenty of
space to perform. However, we already have the place past
capacity. Ergo, if we ever want to keep growing we're going to
have to find some inventive ways to fi more people in there.
The only thing I'm afraid of is that people might to start not
coming if they always have to stand and/or sit in the aisles.
But then, like Luke said, where else are we going to go?
Anyone out there have any good ideas for another good
space that could fit about 50 more people? That would be the
ideal size. Any suggestions? Let's hear 'em

Before you find a new space, make sure that you get at least one
local paper there to do a review and take lots of pictures of a
line and you turning people away.

That is golden.

When we started with the truck in Iowa City, we had around 30
people who would stand in the parking lot in rain and watch.

Growth was not super fast when we moved inside, but what a
wonderful thing it was to have lines forming up at 9:00 to get in
at 11:00 and people being turned away because we just couldn't
push the fire codes any further. It was easier before they put
actual seats in theate B, but there you go.

If you think you can sustain growth, yes, get into a new space,
but make sure you document capacity crowds in the old space
before you do--if people think its a treat to get in, that's
gravy. Sounds like the CAC is a good space for now--enjoy it.
Large spaces do mean its harder to connect with the audience and
a what is a good house in this space may seem really small in a
larger one.

If we were to move over to the theatre I think that the BMT would
be a much better bet. I'm not sure what it fits but I think that
it would be about 150-200. I think that stayer wood stage would
be too much though. Also if shows are in process of going up
theres most likely not much chance of us getting to use the
space.

Hi No Shamers. My name for this board is Chuck. I recently have
seen the past couple of no shames and have been impressed for
the most part. You have a wonderful blend ranging from dramatic
stuff such as musical acts and poetry to the pizza eating
contest which was disgusting but admirable and fun to watch to
bizarre and weird humor such as the dildo sketch.

However, here is my problem. A few acts I have seen in the past
couple No shame events have NOT been original work. I think at
the first no shame two guys did a skit about a monkey. I did not
know this at the time, but my friend later told me that was from
Space Ghost. I know that the scene with the stalker a couple
weeks was actually an idea taken from the book Chicken Poop for
the soul. Just adapted slightly. And last week, the church skit
was not original for I have heard that same joke numerous times
in years past. However, this time, once again, it was slightly
adapted.

I don't want to draw a line of attack on these participants or
No Shame theatre, but the way I understand it is that there is a
only a couple of rules and the big one is only original work.

Once again I don't want to start anything. This was just
something I felt needed to be said. I will see you at the next
No shame theatre. Please feel free to post a response if you
wish.

Respectfully,
Chuck

One problem that we ran into was the fact that many spaces require
a faculty advisor... we decided last year that we didn't want to
have one, but maybe we will need to get one. I don't know.

I think "Chucky" has a good point. For me, I know every once
in a while I'll adapt a good idea, but I really try to never make
my whole skit ripped off, because that is just not cool. Even if
someone rips someone off and credits them, it still not good,
because we then just get a bunch of people doing covers,
which is not the point of No Shame. Good call, Chucky.
P.S. Why don't you use your real name?

first and foremost, im going to say that im sick of anonymous
notes. nobodys going to blame you for speaking your mind. that's
what this site is here for. that pisses off those of us who do
sign our names to our opinions.

now whoever wrote this does have a point. the ripping off
material has got to end. i think there was a point in time where
some people might have been confused about the original material
rule (i dont know how), but that confusion should be cleared up
by now. what to do about perpetrators will require some thought.

and about the talk of BMT/strayer-wood...last fall when neil and
i were getting no shame started, the BMT was the number one space
on our list. we were flatly denied on that on the grounds that
there are many shows held in there, with many set pieces left in
there as well. we didnt check on strayer-wood, but logic says
that that space would have the same problem. I am hopeful that
strayer-wood might be a possibility for Best Of, however, since
that will draw the biggest crowd.

keep the ideas flowin

Discussion on CAC:

Luke and I are the only two people who have experience with Iowa
City No Shame that I know of.
Todd Ristau recently published a message and he has lots.
When I go to Iowa City no shame, you need to get there at least
30 mins early usually to get a seat. That's awesome. People
think they are getting something special when they see tons of
other people trying to all get to see the same show.
i know this because that's how I feel and that's what I love
about no shame - people who desperately want to come and see
other people be creative and entertaining.

Admittedly I would prefer the black box (BMT) as a permanent home
but we've tried that but if anybody has serious connections in
the theatre department go at it.

Also totally agree that we should try for BONS in Strayer Wood.

And suggest trying some of the stuff Todd mentioned in his
email....Get ready for some hot shit on the 16th.

Hi No Shamers. I would just like to explain a few things. First
of all, thank you "Woz" for your insight on my thoughts.

Second of all, I am sorry Luke that I have not disclosed my true
identity. However, this is my choice. No has ever asked you to
disclose any of your names and they never expected you to
either. That was a choice you made much like mine. Besides
having the right to privacy, I also know personally a few of the
regular no shame performers. Disclosing my true identity may
make them feel a different way about me.

Like I said, I did not want to start anything obnoxious like
some "observer". I just wanted to speak my mind without getting
hurt. I love No shame and all of the performers and really hope
you keep up the good work. If you truly want to know who I am
and feel it is a necessary, than Luke just say it in a response
and I will contact you one way or another.

By the way, I saw you were all talking about spaces. What is
wrong with Kamerick? Let me know whenever you get a chance.

Respectfully,
Chucky

Yup--and in case nobody has thought of it, there are real
liability issues involved.

When No Shame started in Iowa City it wasn't because there were a
lot of undergrad writers dying to write for the stage, there were
a lot of undergrad actors ticked off that the graduate
playwrights weren't doing Midnight Madness anymore and so they
didnt' have a chance to get stage experience without auditions
anwyhere anymore. Their clucking about the lost acting
opportunities got me and Stan Ruth clucking about how if they
were that ticked off why didn't they write their own dang pieces,
and from that and a bottle of Jack Daniels came my truck.

We insisted on original pieces because even at that young age we
knew that if we were running the theatre we would be the ones in
trouble if somebody sued for a copyright infringement or for any
royalties due.

When we moved inside the UI theatre building it was even more
important because it was even more likely that someone would sue
the university than two drunks with a truck.

You folks need to be vigiliant about this issue. Its not just
important because the forum is built around original work, its
important because there are actual legal issues involved.

I mean, we do have copyright notices on the No Shame script
libraries at this website--don't the people who are being ripped
off have the same right to protection?

Hello fellow No Shamers,

I'm taking Grampa Todd's advice and checking the other boards
(actually have been for a while before his advice, but I haven't
posted much). I'm a veteran of Iowa City's No Shame (1990-1994,
and I was on the board in '93 and '94) and have just started a
No Shame in Austin, Texas. We've had a pretty successful run
thus far, but we've taken a break for a few months for a couple
of reasons. One, we had sort of run out of momentum as far as
attracting performers, and two I'm committed to several projects
in the next few months that were interfering with my ability to
continue to rouse the troops and bang the drum and insert other
motivational metaphor here.

We've been having a lot of discussion on the Austin message
board recently about the direction No Shame will take when we
resume in January. I'd love to hear what you compatriot No
Shamers think and would love to hear advice on how to make No
Shame as kick ass as it always should be.

PS-If any of you happen to be on the RAT theater list, one of
Austin No Shame's brightest lights, Ratgirl, has just set off a
veritable conflagration of theater related discussion. Tune in

I was able to attend a production of NO Shame theater on November
16. I have to say its the worst thing I have ever seen. The three
main themes seemed to be sex, beer, and weed. Come on not all

I have to agree with Chucky on this one. In fact I don't
remember anything about weed, so there's goes on of her
arguments. Besides, I can think of only about three or four
out of fifteen skits that had anything to do with alcohol or sex,
so that's really not that much. I don't know what prompted

I agree that No Shame is a place to express your opinon and
showcase your art, but some things should not be shown to the
whol public. The act by Howie in a bar last night was over the
top. It was degrading to women and sorry, but real men don't act
like those two do. I believe that No Shame skits should be
reviewed and edited beforehand by the directors. Like that skit
in October by Erica some things should not be said in public! No
Shame is great, but could lose some of the profanity because not
everyone goes for that.

Wow, Elie, you're entitled to your opinion, I guess, but I feel
like either you weren't at the same show I was, or that you
really weren't paying attention. Looking through the order from
last night, I found exactly three pieces out of 15 that dealt
with any of the "main themes" you mentioned. In reality, we had
one of the widest range of material presented over the course of
one night that I believe has ever happened at No Shame. We had
two great fiction readings (Grant and Ron), several poetry pieces
(Katie, Elysia, Jesse, and myself), over the top comedy (Jeff,
Neil), stand up comedy(Josh F)...need I say more?

also, about the "act like adults" comment...why? this is a place
to have fun and be silly, while attempting to be new and
creative. if that is not your thing, then i am sure that someone
who appreciates the hard work put into the performance would be
more than happy to use your seat at the next show,

From: howzi@hotmail.com

OK... I would first like to thank everyone who has tried to put
some kind of constructive criticism on here. However, I want to
assert that my play was only meant to mock people who try to go to
bars and hit on girls in such chauvinistic ways. Remember the
title: How Not to Get Laid. If anyone knows Mike and I, they know
that we would never treat women like that and have little to no
respect for the assholes that do.

That said, I think the best thing about No Shame is that the
"directors" don't review things beforehand. People can try things
out and take risks, and while no one will agree with or like every
piece in the show, some people hopefully will. All I know is that
we had an audience of about 140 and 15 performers. The vast
majority of the audience enjoyed the whole thing, and I have no
apologies for the content of my piece or any of the other pieces,
including the penis one from a few weeks ago. I thought this was
one of our best shows, and I love seeing the talent of these
collegiate writers on display.
Love,
Howard

We allow anybody to write what ever they think is acceptable with
no limits on anybody's creativity.
For Erin, I also don't agree with the content of a few pieces
that were performed, but I would never censor -*ever*- someone
else's piece that makes me uncomfortable or I find totally rude
and offensive ( That's part of free speech). Luke and I started
NoShame with the goal of allowing writer's to experiment and
allowing the audience to respond as they find fit to a piece. I
like your response to Howard's piece - let him know as an
audience member what you don't like, but I don't agree with
censorship. The qoute at the start of this email is absolutely
appropriate.

What do I do when I see a piece I don't like either from boredom
or just plain lack of creative thought? I write pieces that I
like that are funny so hopefully something wonderful drops into
your lap.

:1. A Seduction- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W, Becca Wagoner)
I thought this was funny... the premise was ripped off from
something in the onion, but the jokes were all his, and the music
added to the comedic effect.
2. 20,000 Snowballs- by Jeff Lenhart (Jeff L, Jesse W, and Luke
Jeff is a good writer, and I give him extra props for having this
mostly memorized. This was thoroughly funny except for the
ending, which kinda confused me. Maybe I was just distracted or
something.
3. Fresh Scents- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
Good piece. I think it could have been shorter, but it was really
nice to have something totally different in the show.
4. #20 and #21- by Katie Frederick-Schector (Katie F-S)
Katie is an excellent poet and she reads them well.
5. Harry Potter is a Tubby Bitch- by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
I hope his dates actually happened. Oh, and for the record, it's
Maxim magazine, not Maximum. Good piece.
6. How Not to Get Laid- by Howard Zimmerle (Howard Z, Becca W,
I don't really know what to say about this that I didn't say in
the other post, other than the fact that I'm fucking sick of
people who don't understand that I don't always play myself. Mike
and I were playing CHARACTERS...
7. Simply Josh- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
I thought his Redeker piece was excellent.
8. Dragon Flies- by Grant Tracey (Grant T)
Once again, it was nice to see something different to break
things up. Excellent use of imagery, as well as the comparison
between the dragonfly and the hockey player. The only problem was
the fact that the short story medium isn't always conducive to No
Shame.
9. Hang Ten- by Ron Sandvig (Ron S)
I wish these two stories hadn't been back to back in the order. I
thought this was an excellent story and concept.
10. Fortune Cookies- by Q and Aaron Konigsmark (Q and Aaron K)
Aaron K reminds me of Mike Cassady for some wierd reason, if
anyone is either from Fort Dodge or goes to Iowa City No Shame so
they know who the hell Mike Cassady is.
11. Bittersweet- by Pete Feltman (Pete F and Aaron K)
This was really short, but good once again.
12. 3 Poems- by Elysia Hansel (Elysia H)
I hope Elysia reads this, because for once I actually liked all 3
of her poems. I think the rape one was the best because of the
similies used.
13. Hail to the Thief- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)
Another leftist rant, but well done.
14. The Greatest Treasure of the Whole Fair- by Neil Van Gorder
Neil always has the most unique plays... this one crossed some
lines, but it was good nonetheless.
15. Blowin' Through the Changes, A Mime Like Me, To Frank O'Hara-
These were pretty good. The sax and drums really helped, and I
enjoyed the mime one better after I realized that he wasn't
talking about mimes.

Good show, and I appreciate all of those who went and those who
are reading this right now.

:1. A Seduction- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W, Becca
Wagoner)
Reviewing my own work is like making out with my cousin;
sure it's fun, but somehow you feel bad doing it

2. 20,000 Snowballs- by Jeff Lenhart (Jeff L, Jesse W, and
Luke Pingel)
This guy needs to keep coming!!! He's done two great plays
in a row. The only thing about this one is that you should
probable think about either memorized or not memorized,
because losing your spot slows things down considerably

3. Fresh Scents- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
This was very good. I liked the Redeker thing, too

4. #20 and #21- by Katie Frederick-Schector (Katie F-S)
As always, these were great. It was also nice to hear a funny
one for once, as a sort of change of pace

5. Harry Potter is a Tubby Bitch- by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
The title was funny, and the poem was pretty good. Josh is
truly becoming another solid "redular" of No Shame

6. How Not to Get Laid- by Howard Zimmerle (Howard Z,
Becca W, Mike Collett, Karissa Wikert, Kelly Swanson, Aubrey
?)
Any one who was offended by this is an idiot. Look at the title.
I loved it!

7. Simply Josh- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
Quality like usual.

8. Dragon Flies- by Grant Tracey (Grant T)
This was just great. I was glad to hear this. Excellently written
and just all around impressive. I hope he comes back.

9. Hang Ten- by Ron Sandvig (Ron S)
Humorous and excellent. I agree that this might have been
better not directly after Grant's, just because we've never
really had anyone read short stories before, and then we
suddenly had two in a row. None-the-less, it was great

10. Fortune Cookies- by Q and Aaron Konigsmark (Q and
Aaron K)
I wasn't too impressed by Stump Leg man, but this was a
great little play. Made me laugh

11. Bittersweet- by Pete Feltman (Pete F and Aaron K)
It was kind of confusing because I didn't grasp whether it
was supposed to be funny or not, but it was an interesting
song

12. 3 Poems- by Elysia Hansel (Elysia H)
These were all great. The rape poem was horrific, but in the
good way. I was reaally impressed

13. Hail to the Thief- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)
I wrote this :)

14. The Greatest Treasure of the Whole Fair- by Neil Van
Gorder
It was good to see Neil back and in full form! I loved it!

15. Blowin' Through the Changes, A Mime Like Me, To Frank
O'Hara-
:
by Luke Pingel (Luke P, Dave Oline, Paul Kresowik, Josh
Johnson)
I was impressed with this beyond words. This alredy has my
vote for best of. I believe this is one of the best acts I've ever
seen at No Shame.

Overall, this was one of the best No Shame's ever. Everyone
keep this quality up and we'll have to start turning people
away.

:1. A Seduction- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W, Becca Wagoner)
seemed a bit too close to smoove B for my taste, but had some
funny lines. to my knowledge, the ending wasnt canned, which was a
nice touch. funny that she rejected woz for howard.

:2. 20,000 Snowballs- by Jeff Lenhart (Jeff L, Jesse W, and Luke
:Pingel)
yeah, i really like this guy. very funny writer, and hes so damn
nice on top of it! his humor reminds me of british comedy shows,
which is totally hip...cause its a completely different kind of a
voice at these shows. about the memorization, it was a gallant
effort, but it didnt seem like it was that big of a deal. we have
a forgiving crowd, for the most part.

:3. Fresh Scents- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
i cant believe people really thought he was using actual febreeze!
the reactions is what made this piece for me.

:4. #20 and #21- by Katie Frederick-Schector (Katie F-S)
you know, whenever KT FS comes, I know its going to be a good
night. i was also glad to see some more upbeat stuff from her,
too. her piece about Mike Shelton nearly made me cry...he was my
RA freshman year in the dorms. We miss you, Mike.

:5. Harry Potter is a Tubby Bitch- by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
So Goodrich and Elysia are seriously going out on a date,
everyone. Is that not completely fucking awesome? I say yes!

:6. How Not to Get Laid- by Howard Zimmerle (Howard Z, Becca W,
:Mike Collett, Karissa Wikert, Kelly Swanson, Aubrey ?)
Well, there's at least two people that apparently will not be
laying Howard. I guess to an extent I can understand that people
didn't agree with the actions in this piece...but come on! Neither
does Howard! Hence the name NO SHAME THEATRE, not NO SHAME
REALITY. Does the world not understand that sometimes its fun to
fuck with people? personally i think this would have been funnier
with even more exaggeration of the idiot guy characters
interacting, not necessarily more lewd, but more stupid sounding
(in a witty way). was i coherent just now? im not sure myself.

:7. Simply Josh- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
this performance makes fitkin the front runner for comeback of the
year. between the two of his pieces, i found him to be at the top
of his game.

:8. Dragon Flies- by Grant Tracey (Grant T)
i was so happy that grant came! ive been talking to him about No
Shame for awhile now, and i think this was great for members of
the creative writing faculty to come and support this. really hope
he comes back.

:9. Hang Ten- by Ron Sandvig (Ron S)
ditto on what i just said. i got partially frustrated that a
bunch of people came in the door during this, while i was standing
at the "light booth" (hahahaha), so after pointing to them where
they could sit, i missed half of this. I would recommend he post
his script, but I'm pretty sure his work gets distributed by
better sources than our little script board. man, i really want to
read it!

:10. Fortune Cookies- by Q and Aaron Konigsmark (Q and Aaron K)
pretty witty. i wasnt sure that it was going anywhere until the
end, but i was wrong. We should have a contest sometime where
everyone writes a piece for Aaron to play a role with a German
accent! anybody? shit, my ideas always suck.

:11. Bittersweet- by Pete Feltman (Pete F and Aaron K)
nice job, Pete. my understanding was that it was not a funny song
until pete messed up, and made it funny. i don't care! i was
entertained!

:12. 3 Poems- by Elysia Hansel (Elysia H)
you know, i will say right now why I love No Shame. Its not only
about getting MY work out there, but i can also come and watch
other writers who I really look up to. Elysia, Katie, Grant, and
Ron all fit into this category. You blew me away tonight, girl.

13. Hail to the Thief- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)
This was pretty cool. It was short and got his point across. I
hadnt heard about anyone being upset by his last political poem,
so I'm curious what other reactions were to this one. I dug.

:14. The Greatest Treasure of the Whole Fair- by Neil Van Gorder
:(NVG)
Totally insane humor. I liked this even better than Hans
Zwedernander. There's already so much cool stuff that I'd like to
see at Best Of, i cant believe weve still got 5 months until we
have one.

15. Blowin' Through the Changes, A Mime Like Me, To Frank O'Hara-
: by Luke Pingel (Luke P, Dave Oline, Paul Kresowik, Josh Johnson)

Congrats on the best No Shame we've ever had, and to FINALLY
filling up the order! This kind of show makes me never ever want
to turn away a writer, but its probably coming to that point soon.
see ya in two weeks!

Luke

From: snaser@uni.edu
Time: Mon, 19-Nov-2001 06:53:57 GMT IP: 134.161.68.100

I've been a regular audience member at No Shame for nearly a
year, and I must say, this Friday's performance was one of the
best yet. Perhaps in the future I will have the balls to do
something of my own.

A word about the venue: I wasn't too crazy about the change to
the CAC in the beginning, but upon reflection, I've changed my
mind. I like the idea of the overflowing audience so much so
that people have to sit in the front on the floor. It could
allow for No Shame "groundlings" who provide an interesting
interaction with performers.

Here's my review of the evening, as encouraged by Luke:

:1. A Seduction- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W, Becca Wagoner)
I honestly didn't see the end of this one coming. Some real good
laughs.

:2. 20,000 Snowballs- by Jeff Lenhart (Jeff L, Jesse W, and Luke
Pingel)
I liked Jeff's "Little Titanic" a bit better, but I can't say why
because this was along the same style. Losing his place in the
script was a little distracting, so Jeff should decide whether to
memorize or follow script entirely. I suggest memorize; it's
something about his delivery.

3. Fresh Scents- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
I saw the end of this one coming, but it was good nonetheless.
The audience reaction was classic.

:4. #20 and #21- by Katie Frederick-Schector (Katie F-S)
I enjoy Katie's poetry and especially the first one this time.
Very good wordplay.

:5. Harry Potter is a Tubby Bitch- by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
Goodrich makes me laugh regardless of what he does. He reminds
me of an old friend from high school, only as far as I know, Josh
isn't a habitually lying bastard. I don't remember the poem at
all, but the premise set up for a good ending.

:6. How Not to Get Laid- by Howard Zimmerle (Howard Z, Becca W,
Mike Collett, Karissa Wikert, Kelly Swanson, Aubrey ?)
This was mockery and hyperbole at its best.

:7. Simply Josh- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
This Josh makes me laugh, too. The monologue at the beginning
was good; unfortunately, I don't remember the stand-up that came
after. Sorry.

:8. Dragon Flies- by Grant Tracey (Grant T)
Bravo! This was a well-written piece. I'm glad to see the
diversification of material. Please come back with more; I love
a good story.

:9. Hang Ten- by Ron Sandvig (Ron S)
My only qualm here was that it directly followed another piece of
fiction, but this was not Ron's fault, I know. Another superb
work of art.

:10. Fortune Cookies- by Q and Aaron Konigsmark (Q and Aaron K)
Good piece. I must say, Aaron plays a good German in all
respects. (I don't know what that means).

:11. Bittersweet- by Pete Feltman (Pete F and Aaron K)
Once again, Pete delights the crowd. Even if his interjection
wasn't meant to be funny, it worked. I only wish I could have
heard all the lyrics.

:12. 3 Poems- by Elysia Hansel (Elysia H)
Elysia is my new favorite person. Her poetry is always top-
notch. I wish she'd consider revisiting her stand-up routine
(sitting down, of course) because it was top-notch as well.

:13. Hail to the Thief- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)
Maybe it's me, but I don't see in Bush what Jesse sees; however,
the "rap-esque" delivery helps to get across his powerful message
of anger.

:14. The Greatest Treasure of the Whole Fair- by Neil Van Gorder
(NVG)
Good to see Neil return for another classic NVG skit.

:15. Blowin' Through the Changes, A Mime Like Me, To Frank O'Hara-
by Luke Pingel (Luke P, Dave Oline, Paul Kresowik, Josh Johnson)
Another good diversification. I had a hard time catching
everything Luke was saying with the background accompaniment, but
I got the jist of it.

See you in two weeks. Enjoy the break.

i dunno if everyone's allowed to just review, but that seth kid
seems new, and if he can do it, so can i.

:1. A Seduction- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W, Becca Wagoner)
wait............so she was planted?

2. 20,000 Snowballs- by Jeff Lenhart (Jeff L, Jesse W, and Luke
Pingel)
i remember being confused. i remember that everyone else seemed
to get it. i remember really wanting some apple pie.

3. Fresh Scents- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
freaked my shit out. which is probably good.

4. #20 and #21- by Katie Frederick-Schector (Katie F-S)
dig what woz already said: i can't review my own work.

5. Harry Potter is a Tubby Bitch- by Josh Goodrich (Josh G)
i'm glad josh and elysia are going out and all, but i always
squirm when he says sad things. the poem was funny and shit, but
i worry about his self-confidence.

it's just me. self-depricating humor makes me want to cry.

6. How Not to Get Laid- by Howard Zimmerle (Howard Z, Becca W,
Mike Collett, Karissa Wikert, Kelly Swanson, Aubrey ?)
myself, i thought my own witty, "wear that t-shirt!" was the best
part of the piece--and that was way, way before they said
anything even slightly offensive.

if you could call any of it offensive. which you can't.
offensive is me typing this: if you're not smart enough to
discern made-up people from real people, how the fuck did
you find the big red room in the first place? turkeys.

7. Simply Josh- by Josh Fitkin (Josh F)
the audience loves josh, josh loves the audience. is that a
haiku?

8. Dragon Flies- by Grant Tracey (Grant T)
i wish he hadn't felt rushed--every time i've heard grant read
his work, it's like every sentence is poetry. there just wasn't
enough time to taste it properly.

9. Hang Ten- by Ron Sandvig (Ron S)
i think it's sandvik. and i was already biased toward ron
anyway, cuz he came into cup of joe and gave me props for playing
johnny lang at 7am, which helped me weather the shit my coworkers
give me for my music every other time of day.

straight up, though: beautiful work.

10. Fortune Cookies- by Q and Aaron Konigsmark (Q and Aaron K)
i can say this because both q and aaron are my friends, and they
know how i flip out about shit like this: can we once--once, just
one fucking time--get through a no shame without a skit
centered around the hilarity of predatory gay men????

and don't tell me it was about the accent. i won't believe you.

11. Bittersweet- by Pete Feltman (Pete F and Aaron K)
i am so glad i finally got to hear pete play. i dug.

12. 3 Poems- by Elysia Hansel (Elysia H)
woman, i talked to you after the show, but you know your poetry
is as warm and comfortable as flannel sheets. i will thank the
universe for you as i'm mowing through my dead bird on thursday.

13. Hail to the Thief- by Jesse Wozniak (Jesse W)
welcome to the ranks of poet, wozalicious. i'm glad to hear i'm
not the only pissed-off one in the room.

14. The Greatest Treasure of the Whole Fair- by Neil Van Gorder
(NVG)
neil, you flip my lid.

15. Blowin' Through the Changes, A Mime Like Me, To Frank O'Hara-
by Luke Pingel (Luke P, Dave Oline, Paul Kresowik, Josh Johnson)
INCREDIBLE. i am inspired.

Just to clarify for the confused, I did not plant that girl during
my seduction piece. In fact, I don't even know her name. I
vaguely know her because she was in one of Howie's plays
that I did with him, but that is the extent of my knowing her.
also, I had really planned on whoever got up there saying
yes (I even had another music cue for when she said yes),
but that obviously didn't happen , so the reaction I had was
totally authentic. Just to clear things up. Oh, and if Katie FS
is readin this (or anyone for that matter), not only can anyone
review whenever they want to, we encourage as many
people as possible to do so!

Okay, Erin. I have absolutely no idea who you are, and I'm sure
you don't know me either, but I found your response to No Shame
last Friday to be so incredibly funny that I just had to reply.
Please don't take offense, but have you ever been to a bar? I
agree with you that "real" men don't act like Howie and Mike did,
but ACTUAL men do. Have you ever heard some of the lines that
guys in bars use or the way they stare at women as if their asses
have "Grade A Choice" stamped on them? Sometimes I can
practically see them drool! Once again, if you would have noticed
the title of the piece, "How NOT to Get Laid," or even the
exaggerated way they were acting, you could totally tell that
they were making fun of men who really do act like this towards
women. I thought that the best part was that it's all so true! As
far as reviewing and editing the work presented at No Shame,
doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the open forum format?
Sure some of the material will be over-the-top and offend certain
people, but if you ask me, that's part of the fun. Pissing people
off means that you've made them think and feel something, and
that's quite an accomplishment. By the way, as a former
University of Iowa student and regular attendant of No Shame
Theatre, I can tell you that the material presented in Cedar
Falls is very tame compared to some of the stuff I've seen in
Iowa City.

Well, after reading the reviews of the last No Shame, I was
pissed. I missed most of it to go see a movie. Sounds like it
was fantastic. Glad to hear that Josh is doing publicity. Since
I started attending in January, I have seen an increasing number
of people each week. (being in the CAC is great too---always
makes it look fuller- and it's kinda cozy) No Shame Cedar Falls
is becoming quite popular, and with Josh Goodrich out there
telling people, I am excited to see what happens in the future.
Congrats on a great show last week (from what I hear...) Keep up

P.S. I think next time I'm gonna be giving it a shot- I've been

duh, yo. you don't *have* to be original. just latch onto
someone who has a script or something and tell them you want to

I loved the last No Shame! It was the best I've ever seen. I am
thankful to Josh Goodrich for not trying to eat me in two
minutes at the last show. Therefore, I am able to come to the
show this Friday! I have escaped the greedy fingers of all the
turkey killers this last week, as I have been in hiding in the
mountains of Afghanistan with some weird looking dude with a
beard. He seemed rather bitter at first, but then promised he'd
protect me from Thanksgiving land. So we got along very well
until he attempted to sacrifice me to his anti-Thanksgiving God!
But don't fear! Not only did I escape from the mountains, but I
looked at my watch to find out that it was not Thanksgiving
anymore!

Maybe I should have went to the authorities to report my story
about beard-man. I just kept thinking "I'm just a runaway
turkey, nobody will listen to me." Well, maybe so. I'll tell you
this my brothers and sisters. I'm just thankful to be alive.

See you at the next show!

ok, this is quite possibly my first posting on the bulletin
board - please keep in mind that it is 4:00am and I am on a very
slow computer so excuse the typos.

first things first:
in replying to the angry/upset viewer that believes we need to
clean up our act. well my parents were there along with Luke's
parents and if my mom can sit through the 'penis' essay without
freaking out or leaving than so can anyone else. also you say
that our 'no shame' is full of shame and we should grow up to be
the adults we pretend to be -- we'll the definition of shame is
quilt towards a past action, and we being the adults that wrote
the material presented are adult enough to handle it and find the
humor in it, and do not feel guilty - if you see shame in it,
than perhaps ask yourself why you fell guilt? Everyone need room
to make mistakes and take things to far, afterall, if we don't
push the boundries, how will we know what is too far?

Second things second:
I have no idea how to add in the order from last weeks show so I
will sum up from memory.

Serinade on getting laid:
very funny, I liked the 70's porno music and your honesty about
your characters faults in manners, car cleanliness, lack of $,
etc.

Snowballs:
cool, I didn't mind at all that you lost your place on the
script - it added impromto humor - nice repition on the dog being
hungry so he ate.

Febreeze man:
wow, I thought I would have to call poison control after you
drank that, I am gullible to a fault and I kept smelling the air
waiting for that sweet pungent aroma to wafft up to my row - alas
it was indeed water, probably wise for your intestines though

KT-FS:
Nice work, I laughed at the milkman one, cried at the wind
becoming you not being able to let go, I always appreciate you
asking my opinion and letting me hear some poems earlier in the
week - you are one of my closest poetry pals

Josh:
I hope you had a good Turkey Day and I still want to go on a
date. wouldn't be ironic and funny if we went to see the movie
Harry Potter? Luke says he will take me if you won't (ohhh
competition) just kidding, I also think we could turn this real
date into a co-written and performed skit called "Josh and
Elysia's date: a reinactment" think of the possiblities...

Woz:
nice work with the poetry, it's really nice to see new people
taking a stab at it and doing well at it

Neil:
glad to have you back, missed you at the last show. your skit
about fair had me in stitches - but vagina is such a strange word
to me - I usually refer to my own self as 'snatch' the repitition
made it funnier and also more revolting - nice

luke:
I love the added live music to your stuff - those wisk things on
the snare captivate me as much as your words. the last piece
about the mimes and the man on the bus made me cry - good

guy with curly hair who played the guitar about acid rain:
I'm so sorry I forgot your name, to make matters worse i think
I've even eaten lunch with you before so I'm a bitch but you are
a good song writer - I like the use of numbers as the percentage
of acidity and a call to ask what the people of Iowa are going to
do to stop it from getting worse. good

Aaron and Q:
nice german accent, very funny ending, I got confused about some
of the questions and how every answer lead to the assurance that
he is gay or the answers didn't matter the doctor would have told
him he was gay either way? Side note: I once got a fortune cookie
that said "animals can't smell you" what in the hell does that
mean?

grant Tracey:
I'm so sorry you felt rushed, we should have told you it's ok if
you go over 5 min. we never release the hounds until at least 8
min. :) I really liked the interaction between the child and the
older kid she looks up to. what is the connection between the two
stories I've heard and the line "wanna go get a pepsi?" do you
just like pepsi or is there a symbolism, or perhaps a sponser
slot? just kidding. I'm really glad that you came - you and Ron
are our first prof. to support and join in on the fun of 'No Same'

Ron:
I've never heard your work before - very awesome - I was
impressed - It's not like I thought that you just worked in the
office of the North American Review as a secretary but I'm glad
to see that you are jsut as entertaining in your writing as you
are in person.

ok, I think it's bedtime for bonzo but before i post this message
I just wanted to tell you all how flattered I am by your
comments, I don't know if I doubt my work or if I forget what a
great and perceptive audience you are but either way, thank you.
Elysia

That is a good point. BUT- what I meant was that I have lots of
stuff I want to do, but it's not original. I steal it either from
Saturday Night Live or "Waiting for Guffman."

look at "a seduction" the last line on the page it was called
hail to the thief, which i think was woz's poem that week.
just wanted to bring that to all your attention.
ps, the fortune cookies skit was about the fortunes (a semi true
story) and not about the "preditory gay male" i thought it would
be a funny way to wrap up the skit. didn't mean to offend.

Thanksgiving was great. As usual at our house we substituted a
small boy for the more traditional turkey. Grandma enjoyed the
Pureed Kidney with Raisins.

Hey Luke! There is a strong possibility I may not be able to be
there because of The Red Dragon. If you are one of the last
performers, then there is a chance. I am thinking I will be
released from the theatre at 10:30 or 10:45. Tell me what you
think. Later man!

Miss Erin,
Although you are correct that most men dont act in this sort of
manner, it was a joke...
People need to get down from that high ladder of conformity and
political correctness. Everyone seems to be highly upset by
something as careless and humorous as a spoof on the sexual
aggressiveness of the male college ego. But I'll bet that a
spoof such as that when performed by women to bash men would have
been fully accepted and laughed at. Why is it such a big deal
for men to laugh at our stereotypes when it is such a big joke
for the other sex. Next time you decide to get this gender
rightous think about whom is being oppressed these days...
