so im in a computer lab resting my brain. i have absolutely
nothing to contribute to this message board other than the fact
that nobody has posted in the last 5 or 6 days, and i felt like
that streak had to be ended.

oh, jesse and howard...can you be there by 9 this week?
goodrich, neil and i all have rehearsals, so well be there when
we can.

I was so impressed by last night's NO SHAME that I had to write
first thing this morning about it. I saw so many great
performances and such clever writing. Some highlights, although
keep in mind only just a few because I didn't take notes,
include a well-written news portion written by Jesse; a very
funny performance about 4th graders working to take over a
school; a brand new song by Pete; Neal and Luke with a well-
crafted, articulate piece(great use of movement and words); Josh
Goodrich performing a comedic monologue; Elysia with a well-
prepared, funny piece on her visit to the "Death Center"; and
so, so much more(I sound like a commercial)! I thought last
night's show just fit together right to make a powerful night's
entertainment. Further, I always enjoy laughing.

Hey, while I'm in the neighborhood, I'll do a review!
:1) "Story Time Wif Mo Styles"

I thought this had some very funny moments. Great work.

2)"The New, But Not Necissarily Improved, No Shame
News"

I'm most proud of the stupi/not stupid part, which was only
funny becayse it was delivered amazingly by Jeff L. Oh, and I
wasn't making fun of Josh, I just thought he'd have really
good delivery on the sex part. sorry.

3)"My Pet Fish" by Keith Baedke. Performed by Keith B

A pretty good song, but sometimes I couldn't understand the
lyrics. That's why your fourth grade music teacher always told
you to enunciate!

4)"In Your Face, It's Space"by Jeff Lenhart.

This, as everything he's ever done at No Shame, was pure
genius. When I turned around and saw him eating that
floating sandwhich...well, words can't even express the
laughter feeling I got

5)"The Party Programme" By and performed by Jesse W.

I think this was my technically best poem, with that string of
rhymes and everything, and it also meant the most to me. It
didn't go oevr too well, but then, maybe some people don't
like socialism. Just remember, you don't have to feel
oppressed to be oppressed.

6)"Paterneus at Filius" by and Performed by Pete F.

This was yet another great song. Come to his show at the
vibe on the 16th. I'm playing bass for him

7)"The Doctor" by and Performed by Elysie H.

The part about not having time to play her nurse games was
freaking hilarious

8)"Deconstruction" by and Performed by Dave M.

Genius. Brilliant. best of material. I don't know, but I don't
really have enough adjectives to describe it. This one really
touched me on many levels, and I'm just really happy he
wrote/performed it

9)"Fourth Grade Memory #27 A"by Tim P.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard. Tim, if you're reading
this, you had damn well better come back with stuff like this
every time. Genius.

10)"I May Look Like John Belushi, but he Doesn't Perform
Half as Well as I Do in Bed"by and Performed by Josh G.

You have the right to remain delcious, Josh.

11)"Rip the Tits Off Your Favorite Chick"by and Performed by
Neil V.G. and Luke P.

Luke and Neil writing something together is like if Brittaney
Spears and Justin Timberlake had a kid. It would be just
beautiful, like this play that made so little sense, yet was
perfectly understandable at the same time. It just shows you
what tow geniuses can do in only a few hours.

Hey, over all, this was one hell of a great No Shame. I think I
used the word genius about 500 or so times last night, if
that's any indicator. I think it's best summed up, though, by
the comments of a friend of mine. It was her first time there,
and I asked her if she liked it, and she said the only way it
could be better is if there was No Shame every night. Amen,
sister.

:1) "Story Time Wif Mo Styles" by Howard Zimmerle.
:
Performed by Howard Zimmerle, Becca Waggoner, and two
:
people who's names I don't know

This was really pretty funny. The highlight I was confused at
first whether howard actually was supposed to be black, or
thought he was, but then the bit with the cell phone turned it
around for me. nice work.
:

:
2)"The New, But Not Necissarily Improved, No Shame
:
News" by Jesse Wozniak. Performed by Jesse W., Howie Z.,
:
Jeff L., Peter F., Q, Mike W., Tim P., Shawn ?, Luke P.

lots of good bits...particularly lenhart's bit, and
piper's "goodrich", however it did abuse the five minute rule.
shame, shame, shame.

3)"My Pet Fish" by Keith Baedke. Performed by Keith B

fabulous. the crowd really got into it. i love newcomers, and i
love it even more when they come back and top themselves from the
previous show. a la dave murray...more on him later

4)"In Your Face, It's Space"by Jeff Lenhart. Performed by Jeff
:
L, and Jesse W.

classic lenhart comedy. woz really was hilarious in his role as
well. i think the fact that the trampoline broke added to it,
somehow.

5)"The Party Programme" By and performed by Jesse W.

so im not a political type of guy. i dont get off on this kind of
thing. it was a really strong performance however from woz. as
far as performing goes, i think you were doing some of the best
work ive seen from you tonight, man.

6)"Paterneus at Filius" by and Performed by Pete F.

cool...a song i hadnt heard from pete. it had some nice guitar
work, though i felt it might have been a shade longer than it
needed to be.

7)"The Doctor" by and Performed by Elysie H.

so elysia was pretty much our estrogen contribution of the night.
we appreciate that. i do remember laughing, though i don't
remember that much about it. your tonsils are fucking huge,
though. i hope that goes away.

8)"Deconstruction" by and Performed by Dave M.

i think this was the highlight of my evening. not to take
anything away from minority groups, but it seems like people dont
realize that it aint easy being a straight white male either. it
was very well written, effective use of visuals, plus it was
something that needed to be said. Keep coming back Dave, you rock.

9)"Fourth Grade Memory #27 A"by Tim P. Performed by Tim
:
P., and Shawn ?

Very funny, in that juvenile way. to me juvenile is not at all a
derogatory word (look at what i did this show). good writing, and
well delivered. a few people were thrown off by the gun, but it
was well done.

10)"I May Look Like John Belushi, but he Doesn't Perform
:
Half as Well as I Do in Bed"by and Performed by Josh G.

i really dont remember a whole lot about this, except that it
stuck to clean humor intentionally, which is not like goodrich.
it was cool that you stretched yourself tonight.

11)"Rip the Tits Off Your Favorite Chick"by and Performed by
:
Neil V.G. and Luke P.

can you believe it? our fourth semester of no shame and this is
the first collaboration by the founding fathers? no, the title
has nothing to do with the piece.

great show you guys. i was really impressed with the quality from
everybody.

From: scrumpledump@hotmail.com

so we only have 3 more shows for work that is eligible for the
Best of No Shame. April 5th is the last date for work to be
considered. At the show April 19, we will announce the order of
the annual Best of No Shame, to be held May 3.
What does this mean to you?
Its time for all of you No Shamers-- writers, performers, and
loyal audience members-- to submit your votes for what should be
on the program.
While the final decision is made by the "Bored of Directors",
your input helps us out tremendously.
Also for writers, if there is something you have done this year
that you do not wish to perform again, let us know.
So go back through the orders of fall 2001, and spring 2002, and
make your voice heard.

:1) "Story Time Wif Mo Styles" by Howard Zimmerle.
Look for a sequel next time
2)"The New, But Not Necissarily Improved, No Shame
Went on too long, but Jeff's bit was funny, as was the ad
3)"My Pet Fish" by Keith Baedke. Performed by Keith B
This was funny, but also kind of cool in a philosophical way
4)"In Your Face, It's Space"by Jeff Lenhart. Performed by Jeff
God this kid's fucked up... the sandwich thing was classic
5)"The Party Programme" By and performed by Jesse W.
Excellent poem... he needs to do more thinking about the
socialism thing
6)"Paterneus at Filius" by and Performed by Pete F.
I love Pete's songs, but he could use more hooks
7)"The Doctor" by and Performed by Elysie H.
I like her comedy more than her poetry
8)"Deconstruction" by and Performed by Dave M.
I thought this was by far the highlight of this No Shame. His
delivery is impeccible too.
9)"Fourth Grade Memory #27 A"by Tim P. Performed by Tim
I liked this in a Family Guy sort of way. Keep coming back Tim
10)"I May Look Like John Belushi, but he Doesn't Perform
Good standup... I think the quality of standup we've gotten this
year has been excellent
11)"Rip the Tits Off Your Favorite Chick"by and Performed by
I liked the use of words and imagry, but I had expected something
funnier from Luke and Neil together...
Oh,and on Q's piece... I didn't think it was that funny. His poem
was really good, but he may need to back off the songwriting
thing.

Hey to all I know and don't, excellent show this week. This one
had me in tears (specially *josh's* culinary musings and the
coolest 4th grader I wish I had known).

Anyway, I don't know if anyone's interested in getting anything
published in a student magazine, but you all should, cuz you
rock. Innerweather wants submissions of poetry, fiction, non-
fiction, artwork (in black and white format) and anything else
anyone has. The deadline is this Friday, and you can email it
to inner_weather@hotmail.com or drop it off @ Baker 117.

Yeah, so I probably should have brought this up months ago when
I first found out about the deadline, but, well, I'm a shitty

From: darkenxx@yahoo.com

Thought this was a good show.
Forgive the pointless ramble to follow, as this is my first
posting.
I love the fact that No Shame allows us--as whatever we want to
call ouselves--to express ideas and exchange them, and give us a
venue to perform them for public mockery. I cannot attend
without being reminded of Cafe Voltaire, Cedar Falls style.
Forgive me, I just took Performance Art last semester, look it
up. Anyway, I just want to say that now that I've found No
Shame, you'll be hard pressed to keep me away, even if I just go
to heckle. I look forward to upcoming shows as soon as one is
over.
Question. Is there any kind of summer sem No Shame, for those
of us unfortunate enough to spend our summers at home? If it
just means getting together at someone's apartment, I'd love to
continue the exchange of ideas, even outside the guise of "No
Shame proper". Ideas?
As for Deconstruction. I was very nervous about how it came
across, and something I prescribe to is that a piece should not
be limited to a fixed moment in time. I wrote it, more than
anything, to get people thinking, and I would love to hear and
discuss it or your kinky little thoughts if you feel the need.
Drop me a line!

L8r

P.S. Next time, I'm bringing my amp and a microphone for any who
want to sing. I myself love to play guitar, but I wanna hear
what you have to say from now on.

Some people said they didn't like this, but they didn't get it.
Howard isn't mocking black people, he's mocking stupid
people. I thought it genius and hillarious. Like a Wayne's
World for the 00's

2. time traveling on green upholstery- jess rafoth
I didn't catch all of this, becase I was distracted, but what I did
hear was great

3. room for improv-ment tim piper
The line about stapled typing paper made me loose it.
Tim-keep writing and keep coming, please

4. jimmy mc luck, the lucky boy who had luck at everything,
luckily.- woz
This was inspired by an interview in my home town
newspaper on which the state champion cross country
runner said he'd like to have dinner with Jesus and his
Grandpa. Wehn I read it, I first got the idea of Grandpa calling
Jesus a hippie-haired faggot, and well, there goes a play

5. the mind of a criminal- Q
Once Q explained this to me, it was pretty funny. But I still
don't get the Uncle Mao part. Explain.

6. just janie- janie flowers
Good. I don't remember too much specifically, but I do
remember thinking it was good.

7. poemmmm- elysia hansel
Same as above. I'm too tired to remember, but I do
remember an impressed feeling, and that's all that matters.

8. the long haired individual- jeff lenhart
Jeff, I would like to personally thank you for coming. How?
That is always what I think of when you do your pieces, and
then I laugh for about 5,000 hours. Thank you for existing and
then sharing your genius with us.

9. two poems (fiona do tell? and an apology)- katie fs
Katie F-S amazed me as usual. Thanks for coming. I'm going
to your show ;)

10. god does bless america- woz
Sorry it took so long, but I've always wanted to experiment
with some music and hopefully sometime, a beat. Thanks to
Jeff for keeping on the beat.

11. my life- performed by goodrich
This was just great. Apparently not original, but in this case,
we'll let that slide. Good job, Josh.

Overall, this was pretty good. I did miss the prescence of
Luke and Niel, but it was still a good show.

last week i thought the cell phone bit was just that mo was

this is jess's first run, good job jess!

5. the mind of a criminal- Q
:
well generally i dont write about my piece, but i know i baffled
a lot of people, so and explination. strawer-wood has a vandel.
ever since christmas break of 2000-01 someone sneaks into the
building and puts these signs up in every clever spot in the
building. under carpet, in rarely used drawers, even hanging
from the catwalks by a piece of tape. also every time this
happens, oned of the signs is posted on the green room board and
right beside it is another piece of paper that says "uncle mao
says hello" with a red star under it. the digns are different
too. it started with "tell him," then was followed by "they
know," "it hurts," "it's you" and "not her." no one will admit
to doing this, and no one knows who the vandel is. the range of
suspects goes from some disgrunteled artist to a high professer.
the best alibi i have is that i vandalize with the Q. besides,
if i was a good enough actor to hide this for so long, rose of
treason wouldn't be my last mainstage show i acted in. i just
took the "tell him" legend and created a look into the life of a
mild mannered theatre student turned mysterious vandel.

good work for a first time. i liked hearing some non beat poetery

that this audience didn't.

SO MUCH FUNNIER once i realized you were playing white iowan guys-
-not that the geek-playing-gangsta theme is perfect, but i
laughed pretty damn heartily.

gotta say, the best part about this was the juxtaposition between
sean and tim in the previous skit and sean and tim in this one.

5. the mind of a criminal- Q
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAhahahahahahahahahaaaaahh....

heh.

heh.

hoo.

my brain nearly split when you whipped out that scotch tape, q.
i haven't stopped laughing since (well, on the inside). i am so
glad i got the joke.

6. just janie- janie flowers
well done, flores. the poetry wars continue.

7. poemmmm- elysia hansel
and more (very good) poetry....

8. the long haired individual- jeff lenhart
jeff, take off your mask.

9. two poems (fiona do tell? and an apology)- katie fs
actually, it's "fiona: tell", but you wouldn't know that without
seeing it written down.

was something wrong with the fiona imagery, q? was it easier to
hear the apology? safer? i am intrigued by your comment, mostly
because i really dug the images in the fiona poem, and i thought
the one in the apology were pretty standard, wet-v-dry thoughts.

10. god does bless america- woz
and the poetry wars commence--and brilliantly. well-written
indeed, woz-a-matic; you are fast replacing me as the token
radical poet. or so i like to think.

11. my life- performed by goodrich
stunning, josh. really, really well-done. i had no idea this is
the one you went to actf with--did i ever tell you this was the
audition piece i handed out at "girl on girl" auditions for the
unprepared guys? patrick shanahan made me laugh like a mofo--but
this. i liked this much, much better. :)

First and Foremost, great show to everyone. To sum it up, Glad to
see Janie Flowers perform, Jeff Lenhart kicks @$$, and damn, Q.

I probably should have been more clearer on the intent of my
piece at last night's No Shame. The piece I performed last night
was unpublished material from an acquaintenance of mine, Cody
Daigle, through Steve Taft (head of the Theatre department).

Upon talking with Cody the playwright of this monologue, I had
discovered that I was the first "official" (official meaning in
front of a live formal audience) person to perform this piece of
his, which would make my work (interpretation, telling of the
story, characterization and so forth)of the monologue original.

In a way, this was like F.S.'s "Dike Chorale". F.S. wrote it and
others performed it. The only difference was Cody was unable to
be in attendance when I performed his piece.

Sorry to babble on, I just wanted to clarify the situation for
two reasons. One is that I don't want people to feel that they
had witnessed plagarism which would then result in numerous
performers beginning to "borrow" other material. I am strongly
against this by the way.

And two, I just wanted people to know that my intent was to
showcase a 2-in-1 original work combo (Cody's and mine).

Thank you all.

GOODRICH

Hello,
I had fun again at the big show. I sometimes think I would
enjoy the show more if I didn't go up because then I could truly
take it in. The truth is, that sometimes, I am so nervous
before I go up that I don't take in to the extent that I would
enjoy the show, and then, further, I take a couple of acts
to "come down". Nonetheless, this is truly a great forum. I
sat in the back last time, so that I could see the audience, and
this was a hot audience. I observed them before the show, and I
noticed they were with great energy and anticipation of fun. I
have never truly reviewed the show because I like the chances,
and then, I am concerned that a review could somehow cancel the
chances, so I avoid that consequence. But, simply, this was
fun. I like the guys who wrote the IMPROV thing, there were so
many funnies. And The GREAT WOZ thing about LUCK. Yes, a fresh
talent is good to see, and the basis of the show means so much
more---I love the inside stuff that leads to G-POP
entertainment. Hey--that is most people's inspiration, right.
Also, the IMPROV that wasn't really IMPROV stuff. I hope,
truthfully, that I get to work with these 2 guys, and I will
pursue it vigorously, before the last No Shame. Q touched upon
the greatness of inside comedy, and, in fact, it was
entertaining and intriquing to the the outsiders. The simple
fact that many people desired the answer made it work. Q is
supercool. And Q's songs are great, and the bucket is the
essence. I, in particular, enjoy the one about the guy who
protects the girl anonymously throughout his life even though
the girl never knew it: I love that romantice stuff:
additionally, I have loved a million girls who have never cared
about me. So, the message is powerful, and caring DOES hurt.

OK, so, I like the poetry, too. I don't do that, but, frankly,
the people who do, are great so much in that the message they
convey is the feeling that exists, but is the feeling that does
not express itself in words normally. Katie F-S, my favorite
live poet, is so good. Her stuff is so smart and so fluid, and
so admirable. I sit there and just feel the flow and
smartness. And I love smartness. Additionally, poetry is such
a great cerebral thing to break up the silliness that shoots up
(like heroin). Is heroin legal? I hate so to allude to things
that are illegal. But, you know, the act of escaping is not
immoral nor illegal, it is only society which deems the methods
so.

Keep creating.

Jeff Lenhart

Ok, again, I didn't take notes, so I mention only the acts which
appear in my limited mind during the brief review I do. But,
the show was so much fun, and I had a great time.

Jeff Lenhart

Goodrich,
That was a very good clarification. Thanks. I didn't
mean to accuse you of plagarism, but thanks for the
explanation anyway.

Hello No Shamers this Josh Goodrich! Just wanted to quickly let
all of you know that I am running for the position of the
President of the Northern Iowan Student Government Feb 26-27. My
vice president running with me is Chris McGahan. It is important
to note that you will not see us on the ballot so you will have
to write our names in (or type I guess since it is online
voting). The only guarantee we are making right now is that we
will fight for more funding for No Shame Theatre (money for
publicity, a sound system, and better lighting). Vote for us
because Chris and I see...

"NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!"
-Josh Goodrich and Chris McGahan, Election 2002

Vote for us and Thank you!

Opening for Board...coming soon
As the end of the semester is approaching, an opening for the No Shame Bored of Directors needs to be filled. For some reason, Howard Zimmerle thinks its cool to graduate in 3 years.

If you would like to be considered and planning on being around (preferably) for at least 2 more semesters, please email me at scrumpledump@hotmail.com
rather than using this site.

Luke
