It Rains

Arlen Lawson, Paul Rust, Michele Thompson, Matthew Hart, Jason Nebergall.

(For the poem, Arlen (narrator) narrates whilst Paul (boy) and Michele (girl) perform actions. Jason (punisher) is backstage, and Matt (writer) is sitting in the front row.)

It rains.
          Boy enters stage right.
She's gone.
Facing audience, boy glances to stage left.
He kneels.
Boy turns backward, falls to his knees.
It rains.
          Girl enters.
She comes.
Girl takes a few steps toward stage right, arms outstretched.
He cries.
          Boy buries face in hands.
It rains.
Boy stands, walks toward stage right.
She comes.
Girl takes a few steps toward boy, arms outstretched.
He wants.
Boy turns, takes a few steps toward girl, arms outstretched.
It rains.
Boy turns back, staying in place.
She comes.
          Girl approaches boy.
He loves.
          They embrace.
It rains.
          Boy pulls away.
She COMES.
          They look at narrator.
He LOVES.
          They look at each other.
IT rains.
          They look at Writer.
She CUMS.
They walk over to Writer, complaining about Narrator.
He LUVS.
Writer tells them to go back to what they are doing.
IT rains.
They go behind curtain to fetch PUNisher, PUNisher emerges.
She CUMS.

Arlen continues to recite the three lines, he loves, it rains, she comes, uninterrupted in the background.

JASON: It is I! The PUNisher!

MATT: The PUNisher?

JASON: Yes, the PUNisher. I’ve CUM out of retirement to PUNish those who overuse bad PUNS. Hence my name, The PUNisher.

Matt stares, motionless, at Jason. Pause.

JASON: (Hesitantly) He's using 'come' in a sense which implies more than one meaning.

Matt stares, motionless, at Jason. Pause.

JASON: It's a PUN.

Narrator gives up and walks off stage. Matt and Jason watch Arlen leave, then look back at each other.

MATT: You're a PUN.

JASON: That doesn't make any sense!

MATT nods.

JASON shakes head.

MATT nods.

JASON: OH THE BITTER, BITTER, IRONY!!! (Punches self in crotch repeatedly)
