"Two Rickets for Vincent Price"

By Jake Livermore and Robert Sondag (Paul Rust)

PREFACE:

When people act out "yelling" in conversation, they do not truly yell. Instead, they hush their voices and make faces that suggest one yelling. In fact, this "yell" is quite softer than their normal speaking voices. For instance, Sally says, "I dropped a mallet on my foot and I screamed… (soft "yell" while making disgruntled face)… ‘Ouch! That really hurt!’."

This piece is about that.

This piece is hilarious.

FACE:

Jake and Paul enter from opposite sides of the stage, meet in the center, shake hands, and look out into the audience.

Paul: Last night, Jake and I were at a rock concert. It was so loud. I tried to talk to Jake, but he could hardly hear me. I had to yell… (using soft yell)… "Jake, isn’t this music loud?"

Jake: And I yelled back… (using soft yell)... "What? I can’t hear you! The music’s too loud!"

Paul: And I was yelling… (using soft yell)… "I know! This music is so loud!"

Jake: And then a cop came in and yelled… (using soft yell)… "You’re going to have to turn this music down! If it gets any louder, I’ll make you all go home!"

Paul: And everybody got really angry and yelled… (using soft yell)… "Boo! Leave us alone! We’re just trying to have fun!"

Michele enters.

Michele (actually yelling): Fire! Fire!

Jake and Paul are confused.

Michele (actually yelling): Fire! Fire!

Jake and Paul are still confused. Michele realizes the problem.

Michele (soft yelling): Fire. Fire.

Jake and Paul begin soft yelling in fear.

BLACKOUT.
