Who's Saving What?
(performed with original music by Brad Schnurr)

I am an old woman
I gave birth to something, a long time ago
I'll call her a daughter,
Beause that's what she was
But more like a lover
Who left me alone.

She tried hard to say things
But her tongue was too small
The things that girl thought about
Made it easy to laugh.

I never laughted at her--
Just the way that she talked
Most times I laughed with her
Now I don't laugh at all

When she left, she didn't know she was going
And it took quite a while to catch on
And yes, I'll admit that I love her
Even more now the reasons are gone....

She is a young lady
Foolishly proud and standing strong
She's doing fine now without me
Guess I've waited just a little too long...
But sometimes I'll go and I'll see her
To find out what the fuss is about
See I heard that she might be in trouble
But trouble's what she's all about

You know what I mean?

I said, do you know what I mean?

When I left she didn't know I was going
And it took just a while to catch on
But yes, I can see that we're loving
Even more since the reasons have gone

Ha, who's saving what from who, that's what I'd like to know
Yeah, who's saving what from who that's what I'd like to know

AUTHOR'S NOTES:
This was sort of a No Shame protest song, written during that time when there was a petition being circulated to "save No Shame". I didn't really understand it, and I don't think there was really a threat to get No Shame kicked out. I hadn't been to No Shame in quite a while, as it had...let's just say lost its appeal to me, was very "in crowd", and all the pieces were starting to feel like in jokes. I was in a main stage show when I wrote this, might have been Time of Your Life, but I'm not sure. I do remember most people thought I'd written it about one girl in particular and not about No Shame in general, and so the point was missed, but Brad wrote a hell of a good tune for it and really sang it well. Too bad I'd keep getting drunk and asking him to play it at parties. I think that's why he claimed he forgot how it went.

in Theatre B.
